Valieva Falls While Attempting Quadruple Toe Loop at Channel One Cup
Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva placed fourth in the short program at the Channel One Cup team tournament, which is being held in St. Petersburg. During her performance, the athlete experienced a fall while attempting a quadruple toe loop.
Despite the setback, the 19-year-old Valieva successfully executed a double Axel and a triple Lutz-triple toe loop combination after her fall. Her final score for the program was 70.09 points.
The short program was won by three-time Russian champion Adeliia Petrosian, who achieved a score of 76.45 after successfully landing a quadruple toe loop. A distinctive feature of the Channel One Cup is that female single skaters are permitted to perform quadruple jumps in the short program, a practice that is prohibited in ISU (International Skating Union) competitions.
Adeliia Petrosian has also been named the captain of the Moscow team for the 2026 Channel One Cup. Meanwhile, the St. Petersburg team's leader is Evgeny Ustenko, who competes in a pair with Ekaterina Mironova. The current competition is taking place at the Yubileyny Sports Complex in St. Petersburg on March 21 and 22.
Valieva herself recently announced her decision to return to competitive skating. Her father, Valery Ramazanov, commented on his daughter's comeback, stating that despite their strained relationship, he continues to offer his full support.
